Ukraine: Kherson region increases growing areas

"This year, farmers in Kherson region have increased sowing areas by one and a half times. They have already sown over 19 thousand hectares of spring cereals and legumes, 29 thousand hectares of industrial crops, 800 hectares of potatoes, 450 hectares of vegetables, and 150 hectares of watermelons and melons," said the first deputy head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, Dmytro Butriy.

He noted that vegetable crops are planned to be sown on an area of 2 thousand hectares this year. In addition, farmers have planted winter crops such as wheat, barley, and rapeseed on an area of over 110 thousand hectares this autumn.

According to the first deputy head, the increase in sowing areas was made possible thanks to the work of sappers. Currently, they have cleared 83%, which is over 420 thousand hectares of arable land.

In addition, the area of greenhouse farming has increased in the Kherson region. This year, farmers in the region have already harvested the first crop of radishes, cucumbers, zucchinis, and strawberries.
