Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt MLVVNTorobaev instructed seed-growing farms in Kyrgyzstan to focus on cultivating high-income crops and facilitating their adoption among farmers.
Under these directives, citrus crops, such as mandarins and oranges, are undergoing trials in the Batken region. At the "Otuz-Adyr" branch of the Kyrgyz Variety Testing Station in Kara-Suu district, "Producer Saïs" watermelons imported from Turkey are cultivated on 4 hectares, while "Lojane" tomatoes from the Netherlands are grown on 2 hectares. Additionally, five grape seedling varieties are tested at the "Oomat-Agro" production seed-growing cooperative. Such trials are also being conducted in other regions across the country.
Bakyt Torobaev stated, "All seed-growing farms must conduct trials of high-income crops that can bring substantial benefits even from 1–2 hectares of land. These crops should be studied and adopted, and then farmers should be trained in the correct cultivation methods. For each crop—be it grapes, watermelons, or tomatoes—that yields high profits on farms, training seminars should be organized at regional and district levels and shared with the population."
Farmers are encouraged to diversify income sources through the cultivation of crops with potential for high profit margins. Torobaev also emphasized the need to integrate drip irrigation systems to conserve water resources for these high-margin crops.
